I have taken the neutron time spectra from the raw MTA Histograms, taking a histogram and applying a background subtraction as indicated by Tim. The raw neutron time spectra were binned differently from the capture time spectra, 60 ns rather than 200 ns used for the recoil time spectra. I used the raw neutron time spectra to generate a MC distribution with equal statistics but with binning identical to the capture recoil spectra.

Comparison for the Different DelZ categories.

From left to right, all capture events, events with -1 anode displacement between muon stop and capture recoil in the TPC, same anode for muon stop and the capture recoil, and +1 displacement.

The color coding is as follows

  • Black - all events
  • Red - events where the EVH capture recoil island has occurred -1 anode down-stream from where the muon is taken to have stopped.
  • Green - recoil and muon stop on the same anode
  • Blue - recoil observed on the next up-stream anode from the muon stop anode.

Comparison of Capture and Neutron Start Time Scans

A comparison of the start-time scan for all EH-EVH capture events, using the MinEH time definition, to the time spectrum for detector "2" (on the 1-8 scale). One important thing to note is that the fit to the neutron spectrum may be subject to a time offset that isn't taken into account directly with the simple 4-parameter fit function used here.
  • [2]*(exp(-[0]*t)-exp(-[1]*t))+[3] where [3] is fixed to 0.
  • Neutron time spectrum fits are in red, capture in blue, just to be clear
  • The most encouraging finding is that the fits are in good agreement in the range of 2 mus's
  • Can be improved by double checking the background subtraction procedure (which I believe is like Tim's), but mostly by incorporating a time offset.
