The big picture

i) We got a grace period for submission until 1/28/08, until Claude returns from Russia. Perhaps even a few days more.

ii) Tomorrow Wednesday we want to have all pieces together for the experimental chapters 5-7.

iii) Wednesday we will have our regular MuCap telconf. We should discuss MuSun organizational, editing steps then.

iv) Wednesday/Thursday Dave will be the main editor of the existing chapter 5-7.

v) Thursday Peter Winter will take over as editor. We should strive for a quarter-final version before the weekend.

vi) After retracting as editor tomorrow, Peter K will work on the theory section in close collaboration with USC.

vii) Concerning section 9 we need

  • A budget list of all more expensive items. Sasha please be so kind to start this spreadsheet.

  • A time schedule of milestones which I will convert into a Gantt chart. Again, Sasha please start.

viii) We will post an updated semi-final version on Monday 1/28/08. We should have a joint reading/criticism telconf on Tuesday.

Current proposal

I updated the current pdf file with todays version. We will update both pdf and a tar.gz Wednesday night or Thursday morning. The Thursday draft should be the first version for detailed proofreading of chapters 5-7.

5.3 Optimization of the Target Conditions: Tim, Valodja include fit results

5.4 Observables: PNPI, we don't agree on 3He range, let's check, It would be nice to put additional labels like "N capture" in fig.8 top and "d+3He fusion", "N capture" on fig.8 bottom. Perhaps PNPI could provide that.

6 Experimental Setup

6.1 Cryogenic TPC: include coordinate system axis on fig.9, PNPI, Sasha, Marat, please check fig.13. PNPI please check table.4. Are the ANSYS figures final enough to include in proposal?

6.2 Cryogenics and Gas system

6.2.1 This section is too long. We should refer to NIM for details and concentrate on specifics of the new set-up. Perhaps Malte and Calude could help here.

6.2.2 This is fine, but we should end the paragraph with a clear statement of the D2 production plan and its purity, Sasha, Marat

6.3 Detectors

6.3.6 DAQ: We are waiting for Rob's response, but should start writing very soon (Tim, Fred, Rob).

6.4 Monte Carlo Simulation: Bernhard a better fig.18 pdf please. Also somewhere earlier we need the MC prediction on stopping fraction in fiducial.

7 Statistics and Systematics

7.1 Statistics and Rates : Table 6 needs a careful discussion. We also have to find an acceptable formulation how to use the tau from MuLan. At the moment we don't reach 1% overall error in table 9.

7.2 Systematics: Brendan, please check/update final MuCap uncertainties

7.2.1 Clean Muon Stop : Bernhard, Valodya, let's discuss what we can do here in the little remaining time

7.2.2 Chemical Gas purity: Just a remark. The current humidity sensor is not sensitive enough, if we are really afraid of H2O in the CIC.

7.2.3 Isotopic Gas purity

7.2.4 Hyperfine transition + 3He capture

7.2.5 Fusion Processes

7.2.6 md Polarization Tim
